Created for the dining room of the Sainsbury Wing, now closed for renovation, the mural is now on show together with smaller studies and drawings in the main building. Inspired by Crivelli’s “The Madonna of the Swallow”, the mural depicts several historical and biblical figures set in an imaginary garden. The figures include the Virgin Mary, Saint Catherine, Mary Magdalene and Delilah. Paula Rego died in 2022.
